After Afghanistan being the team qualifying team Group B for the Super-10 Group 1 of the ICC World T20; this match doesn’t matter much. This game will only be played for the 3rd position after Zimbabwe (2nd). As, both these failed to open their account in qualifying stage, this match will be played for their fans.
This is the 10th qualifying and the last qualifier match for Group B teams. The match is to be played on the same Nagpur Cricket Ground.
Hong Kong: New team, and had a new start for the ICC World T20. Even though, they failed to qualify for Super-10, they should a good sport at the end of the day.
As per Hong Kong’s vice-captain – “We’re all really proud to be playing for Hong Kong, and really want to put on a strong performance for the fans and for the people following us back home — and just show the World what we’re capable of”
Scotland: After a really disappointing display from the Scotland Team, Scotland team will be looking to return home with a taste of a win. With only pride to play for, Mommsen could be tempted to give his fringe players a taste of the big stage.
Preston Mommsen explained, why it was difficult for Scotland to perform on big stage – “In general, it’s tough to attribute our lack of getting over the line. I do go on about it, but there is a lack of International cricket for us. Since the 2015 World Cup, I’ve played in one ODI match in 12 months”
Toss: Hong Kong won the toss, and opted to bat first.
1st Innings: After choosing to bat first, Hong Kong didn’t expect to lose a quick wicket just in the 2nd over. HK started a slow started scoring at a rate of 6 per over. At the end of batting powerplay, Hong Kong had lost 2 wickets for 32 runs.
Except Chapman’s (40 in 41 balls), no batsman made a major contribution to the team total. As, Hong Kong kept losing wickets at one end, it became more tough for new batsman to score some runs. Lack of big shots, produce the Hong Kong team, as a result they lost some quick wickets.
Rain delayed the match: At the end of 18th over, where Hong Kong were 99/6; unnecessary rain interrupted the match. As, umpires finally gave the call to stop the play at 19.3 overs with Hong Kong score 120/7.
Finally, some good news from the Vidarbha, Nagpur stadium as rain has stopped. And, at the end of 20th over, Hong Kong scored a low total of 127/7.
Before, the 2nd innings would start, it again started raining. Umpires had to force to reduce overs, looking at the time. So, once the rain stopped — the game was shorten to 10 over, with 3 overs of batting powerplay and bowler allowed to bowl a maximum of 2 overs.
Now, Scotland will need to chase 76 runs in 10 overs.
2nd Innings: Looking at an easy target of approx. 6 an over, Scotland started their innings as they had to chase the total in 5 overs. Munsey scored 4 fours in 2 overs at a rate of 10 an over.
This was some quite easy chase, the Scotland dugout was really with their first win. Scotland won the 78/2 in 8 overs.
